My wife and I were in the mood for a kaiju movie last night, so we fired up Pacific Rim. We’d seen it before, but only once, so I’m happy to report it was a lot more fun — and more beautifully shot and animated — than I remembered. It’s a fast-paced action movie, but even so, I was surprised and amused to see that at one particularly dire moment, when a character barks a command at another in Japanese, the subtitles end in not one but two exclamation points. I don’t think I’d ever seen that AP Stylebook violation before in movie subtitles.
